BOOK FAIR
Greetings, my name is Nzingha Nommo and I am the owner of Afriware Bookstore. What better way to inspire children to read than to expose them to books that are reflective of their cultural heritage? After all, that was how I got started. I used to despise reading as a child and even went to the extreme of choosing a major in college that was "anything but reading"...and now, I have a book store. What turned everything around was the type of books I was exposed to. When two co-worker/friends on the job recommended books like, "Invisible Man", and "The Mis-education of the Negro", my literary landscape became forever changed. After that, reading became an enjoyable pastime that evolved into a passion that I wanted to share.
We are happy at Afriware Books to work with you to provide your students with a wide selection of titles from all genres including graphic novels, history, multicultural history, science, and more. Studies have shown that providing a foundation of cultural heritage can increase students GPA by 2 letter grades [1]. Our 3 step process gives you the tools needed to make it a success! Authors are also available to come out to speak on their works or give a creative writing or illustrating workshop. The students come alive when they begin to see the possibilities available to them!
