Poetry The Way I See It: Old School Poetry by Paul Lawrence Dunbar Banks
I have put together some of my writings from my many hours, days, thoughts and travels while in the Navy and beyond. I have done many things over the years to ensure my writing did not interfere with my everyday life. At times this was difficult because I was in the Navy. I spent my off time interacting with people and getting their opinion on different things, and subjects. If they were good friends, maybe we would talk on a personal level. I would sometimes record conversations with people from other lands and here at home about their way of life and their memories. Here at home I would sometimes ride the bus with my tape recorder which was about the size of a hand-held radio, and record the many conversations, and the feelings of the people around me. Sometimes I would engage in interesting conversation with some of them, and later when back on the ship I would incorporate some of the conversations into my old poems, or write new poems, but most of the time I wrote my own thoughts.
