For 35 years, Chicagoans and even people outside of the city and outside of the country have been making their way every summer to Chicago’s Grant Park for the world’s largest gospel festival – The Chicago Gospel Music Festival. Yet, most people have no idea of the Festival’s history – where did it come from? When did it start? And who founded this wonderful Festival?

Finally, Sasha Daltonn, the originator and founder of the Chicago Gospel Music Festival, has written a book that tells it all.

Sasha describes how she brought the idea to then Mayor Harold Washington, the first Black mayor of Chicago and many agree, the greatest mayor Chicago ever had.

She tells of her challenge, as a jazz singer, to win over Chicago’s gospel community. She gives heartwarming, and sometimes humorous accounts of her encounters with many of the nation’s gospel greats.

And through it all, she gives a historical perspective of Harold Washington’s Chicago, the people and the politics.

Whether you’re one of the hundreds of thousands that have attended the Chicago Gospel Music Festival, or a crowd-shy somebody who just loves to read a good book, Unplugged will find a special place in your heart and on your bookshelf.
