Abi and the Little Mermaid / Abi ak ti Sirèn Nan

Contributor(s): Dessources, Martyna (Author) , Joseph, Audeva (Illustrator)

Target Age Group: 05 to 11

A classic fairytale but not quite as we know it, Abi and the Little Mermaid showcases the Little Mermaid story in a whole new light. Abi, who lost her mum at a young age copes with feelings of loneliness while her dad is out fishing. She uses song to comfort her while playing by the ocean but little does she know her song would introduce her to an unlikely new friend. What proceeds is a friendship of curiosity where Abi learns more about Lora the mermaid and her magical life under the ocean. A beautiful friendship between land and sea prevails filled with joy. Abi and the Little Mermaid allows so many more little girls to see themselves represented in the pages of one of the most popular tales of our time. The original Haitian text is displayed next to the English so that this beautiful language and rich culture can be preserved and passed down from one generation to the next. Sure to delight families of the Haitian diaspora, this story will also expand the mind of any child who is curious about other cultures.
