All year round we're proud to carry products from Black owned creators. This year we're featuring notebooks, back packs, calendars and aprons with oven mitts to ship. We have 10 calendars to choose from and items for the home like notebooks, shower curtains and bath mats. This is the first year we've made the non-lit items available on our website so we are looking forward to seeing how our customers respond to it. Due to the arrangements we've made with our supplier for COVID, these items may take up to 2 weeks to receive, so please place your orders early. COVID19 has required that we get very creative about how we reach our local customer base. Since March 2020 we've been curbside only. This just means that purchases are made online via email exchange, Google Hangouts or Skype. Then a Paypal link is sent. After payment, an appointment is made to meet usually on Saturdays curbside with the merchandise in Maywood. After much deliberation and discussion, this year we've decided to adopt a hybrid model. We will continue to always offer online options, but some merchandise is available in store. For a look at our in-store collection, check out our new Google 360 page here. If you see an item you are interested, just call or text us on 708-943-7770. We will have select store hours for Black Friday through the end of the year as well. For the latest, check out our About page. 2020 Gift GuideDon't forget our great collection of children's books. There are so many to choose from whether you are trying to bring Black Boy Joy or a smile to your little princess, we have an entire category to select from here. Some of the selection is shown below. When a child sees a reflection of themselves in literature, it serves as acknowledgement that the world values you. Psychological studies have shown the benefits of adding a culturally reflective component to books. In school systems, the formal name for it is "Parental Racial Socialization." As described in the 2012 article found in Harvard Graduate School of Education, a student's GPA is more likely to increase by up to 2 letter grades as a result. If the historical importance of African Americans is missing from the history books in the classroom, parents, guardians, and new homeschoolers can supplement the material with substantive works that could empower the student with the cultural nourishment needed to build strong intellectual and self-esteem muscles. Here's our full children's catalog here. Games from Black Owned CompaniesAnd let's not forget the importance of the art of play. Since we've all been couped up at home during the pandemic, why not turn off the TV or computer and play a game to challenge the intellect. Here are a few by Black creators below. And let's not forget TSHIRTS. We're always adding to our product line. One supplier does vendor shows and is based in Atlanta. The others we design in house as part of our store merch. Check out our collection here We add items every week and are willing to consider your items. Please feel free to contact us here at afriwarebooks@afriwarebooks.
