The Ankh Meaning

4/3/2024

This one is intriguing...

As a formally trained Electrical Engineer (prior to opening our bookstore ( AfriWare Books, Gifts & Cultural Events) "The Ankh - African Origin of Electromagnetism" by Nur Ankh Amen captured my attention from the very start.  To imply that there are electrical characteristics associated with this ancient symbol was fascinating to me.  Before I read the book I saw the symbol being worn on occasion, but I didn't know its depth or possibilities.

It seems Erykah Badu should probably get the most credit for popularizing the symbol she wears with pride. Her, "New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)" was released in 2010.  The symbol goes back thousands of years and is etched in stone in Africa.  The most commonly repeated description of the Ankh's meaning is "a symbol of life." My interest in the ankh symbol piqued for me when I had a conversation with our highly respected ancestor Dr. Jacob Carruthers at the Center for Inner City Studies one evening.

Here's what "had" happened...

I was visiting the institution (now renamed the NEIU-CCICS Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies as a beloved tribute) and, was wandering around trying to get to a meeting planned there by Atty Standish Willis, on Mumia Abu Jamal.  Dr. Carruthers walked by and said, "do you need some help?"  I was so relieved because I'd circled the area a few times and gone down a dark hallway.  I was totally lost.  He eagerly pointed me in the right direction and introduced himself.  He spoke about the hieroglyphics and invited me to see more in his office which was close by.  Though I wasn't familiar with this intellectual GIANT who was small in stature at the time, something about his presence was completely genuine and earnest.  I followed him a few feet into his office which had stacks and stacks of papers and large books.  He pulled out one with the hieroglyphics and there it was; the ankh and many many other symbols he made sure to mention were of African origin.

so, please stay with me reader, I'm getting back to the book...

Reading THIS book can take you on a journey to distant lands.  The author refers to Black people as "photonic beings."  He says we can pick up the invisible electromagnetic forces stored in the symbols.  He calls collections of hieroglyphic symbols electronic circuit designs.  He has electronic circuits depicted throughout the book. He explains how the ankh mimics the flow of energy through the capacitors, resistors and inductors.  He even explains how the copper in melanin interacts with the electronic circuitry of the ankh.  Here are some chapter headings:

African Astrophysics
African Plasma Physics
Ankh Science and the History of European Electronics

...it's deep for a mere 133 pages.  It's amazing it's only $10.95 as the quality of its content and knowledge you will gain far surpass this price, imho.
