When I first read it, I thought it was a ridiculous conspiracy theory... and then everything she said started proving itself before my very eyes. Dr. Frances Cress Welsing (Mar. 18, 1935 - Jan. 2, 2016) is currently holding her high priestess status in cultural psychiatry even as an Ancestor. Her single book "The Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors" released in 1991 was as profound then as it is over 30 years later. She didn't need to write any other books because the breadth and depth covered in that one unravel the problem of how Black people are treated by society at the root. She stretches out her cogent and astute thoughts before us as a surgeon general carefully places their tools on the table The scientific method she uses to analyze each point can silence naysayers in a single sentence. Have you read it...again? I definitely had to re-read it after first slamming it down and dismissing all of it. Her work can make you uncomfortable because she has questioned the world in a way that picks apart the inspiration behind social behavior and lays bare their raw undeniable ingredients. She carried herself as a cool calm highly intelligent tall Black woman who understood her value and left no psychological stone unturned. She has lectured at our bookstore many times over the years. Her sisters Lorne Cress Love and Barbara Cress Lawrence would always accompany her. She would often leave a hush over the audience because of the profound depth of her statements. She'd even make mention of the quiet to underscore her points and once again, the truth would assert itself as a main character in her presence. She wielded it as a sword. Her conclusions served as a healing across the room. The level of self respect she exuded and radiated out to the audience was her invisible superpower. Her very presence demanded dignity and respect. I've learned a great deal from her example. I explained on our podcast the gold plated value she placed on keeping your word. Her high standard of excellence reigns in all she did. Whenever I'd call her to request her presence at the bookstore, she would always respond, "put it in writing." I don't care how many times she'd visited in the past, this was her modus operandi and was a requirement to interact. It was formal and professional in every detail. Though I could go on and on about her philosophy and theories, I must stand in salute and praise for her book, "The Isis Papers," as it speaks very clearly for itself. I have the highest respect for her and when she made her transition I wrote a Proclamation you can read in detail in our blog declaring her book a "sacred text that reached triple Black Gold status." I presented it on papyrus to her sister, Lorne after the memorial service held at the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies. I'll close out with her own words she repeated many times at the end of her lectures: A Liberating Black People’s Prayer for Justice and Peace By Dr. Frances Cress Welsing Thou who are Blacker Than a trillion midnights Whose eyes shine brighter than a billion suns. Thou whose hair doth Coil Lighter than a million springs, Radiating All energy throughout The Universe. We beseech thee, One And Only One, To give us total Strength to carry out THY will for this universe To establish justice On Planet earth and live in peace.
